# 56-hour internationally accredited mediation skills training

Participants who successfully complete the 56-hour programme are eligible for recognition as qualified mediators, as well as local certification with the Mediation Board of Trinidad and Tobago. This is subject to registration and successful completion of the training assessment.

**In this workshop you will learn:**

1. Conflict theory: understanding conflict; conflict resolution concepts and styles.
2. Understanding negotiation, a key skill for mediators; communicating effectively and increasing emotional intelligence.
3. Introduction to mediation: stages of the process, competencies and guiding principles.
4. Mediation concepts: identity, diversity and personal bias.
5. The role of the mediator: what mediators do and how.
6. Pre-mediation and opening the session; identification of issues, positions and interests.
7. Generating options and problem-solving.
8. Agreement writing and post-mediation follow-up techniques.
